I have had to rework the layout of STAR KITES in order to slightly reduce the number of pages and end up with a volume, once packed and ready to ship, whose weight is slightly under 2 kg - 2 kg being the weight limit accepted by the Italian Post Office for sending books abroad.
I really had to do this as the cost of shipping would otherwise become astronomical. The weight (which includes the book, the cardboard box and the protective bubblewrap) only exceeded the limit by about 65 grams. In the new version it will be below the limit by about 40 grams. This issue impacts on the sending of single books especially in Europe.
The resulting book has 490 pages instead of the original 520. The A4 format remains exactly the same and so do all the other features (cover, type of paper, etc.). The layout has been slightly compressed into the new (reduced) number of pages by using a slightly smaller typeface, eliminating large blank spaces, slightly re-sizing some of the drawings and photographs, re-arranging Index, Notes, etc.
Having said all of the above, the book is identical to the first, 520-page version. No drawings or photographs have been omitted and probably no-one would notice unless I told them. You can see the difference in the photographs below that show my first, battered copy of STAR KITES on the left next to a sample of the new version which is slightly slimmer.
